Maximus, and Calabash

The Frers Design performance cruiser Maximus, and Calabash, from Mallorcan naval architect Javier Jaudenes’ Surge Projects, were both launched in 2023 and will bring additional flair to the already strong roster of yachts taking part in the renowned festival of sail from 19 to 22 June.

At 59.3m the ketch rigged Vitters-built Maximus will be the largest yacht at this year’s event by some margin, and is one of the largest superyachts to have ever raced at the Superyacht Cup Palma in its long history.

Calabash meanwhile will find plenty of friendly competition in the 24m range, notably the 24m Wally and defending champion Rose, and the Nautor Swan duo of the 25m Dark Horse and 24m Umiko.

Another trio in a slightly longer LOA include the Hoek designs Atalante (38.7m) and Vijonara (39.4m), the latter making her SYC debut, and the Tripp designed 39m sloop Cervo.

And a final trio to round off the fleet in some style are the J-Class triumvirate of Velsheda — out to defend her narrow class victory of last year — Svea and Rainbow, making her first appearance after several years with a new owner.

Welcoming two brand new boats to the Superyacht Cup Palma is of course a great thrill, and we have no doubt the legendary Mallorcan sailing conditions will, as ever, add to the momentWith just under a month to go to the regatta, we are looking forward to seeing the fleet come together!” said SYC Event Director Kate Branagh.

The J-Class get the party started with their own race on Wednesday 19 June, ahead of the Captain’s Briefing and Pendennis Welcome Cocktail on the terrace of the prestigious Real Club Náutico de Palma, SYC’s long-standing race management partner and event host.

Thursday features Pantaenius Race Day with the whole fleet involved, immediately followed by the Southern Spars Happy Hour and daily prize-giving.

Friday’s racing is supported by SYC’s Official Timepiece partner Jaquet Droz. Their race day concludes with the North Sails Happy Hour and the St. Regis Mardavall Midsummer BBQ for owners.

Racing comes to a conclusion with the St. Regis Race Day on Saturday 22 June and the celebratory Superyacht Cup Palma Prize Giving on the RNCP terrace.
