Oman Sail reports man overboard off the coast of Croatia

Dubai: Oman Sail crew member Mohammad Al Alawi was declared missing off the coast of Croatia on Wednesday after falling overboard.

A team statement said French skipper Sidney Gavignet of Oman Sail’s flagship trimaran Musandam reported a man overboard at 5.05am Central European Time (7.05am UAE).

“Italian and Croatian coastguards are assisting with the search and rescue operation for missing crew member Mohammad Al Alawi, aged 26,” read the statement.

“Mohammad’s family has been notified and Oman Sail team members are with them and supporting them through this uncertain time. An update on the situation will be sent once we have more information,” it added.

Wind speed at the time of the incident was 15-17 knots.

Musandam was in the Adriatic Sea on its way to the Barcolana Regatta in Trieste, Italy having sailed from Marseille in France. It was not in a race situation.
