Outteridge to compete at Sail Melbourne

World 49er Champion Nathan Outteridge will compete at the 2010 ISAF Sailing World Cup – Sail Melbourne in December.

Twenty-three-year-old Outteridge who, along with Iain Jensen won the 49er World Championship in Italy last month, said Sail Melbourne was the perfect lead up to the worlds in the Bahamas in January.

“I should be coming to Sail Melbourne,'' Outteridge said this week. “We have our 49er Nationals at Lake Macquarie the weekend before SIRS, and then, obviously SIRS, and then heading down to Sail Melbourne.

“We have our worlds in the Bahamas from the 2nd to 9th of January, so these events will be the perfect lead up regattas for us. We are hoping that some overseas guys will come and join us. So far we have teams from Ireland, New Zealand and Great Britain confirmed.''

Outteridge and Jensen's win in Italy was an exciting start to the pair's campaign, as the world championships was only their second regatta together. They then split up to finish 2nd and 3rd at the 29er Worlds, Nathan teaming with his girlfriend, Lauren Jeffries, and Iain sailing bow for Nathan's sister, Hayley.

Outteridge has just finished competing in the foiling Moth worlds in the USA, where he took the silver medal.
