Perfect weather conditions blowing an average of eight knots, yesterday’s racing called for a fantastic day of offshore racing on the Gold Coast in the 2016 Bartercard Sail Paradise Regatta.
Principal Race Officer Louise Davidson said “it is a pleasure to be the race officer for this regatta and with weather conditions this beautiful, it made for a wonderful day of racing”.
Finishing in first (1st) place in IRC division today “We had a really great day on the water, and the crew are thoroughly looking forward to another four days of racing” said Lee-way skipper Tony Horkings. Finishing first (1st) in Multihull Performance racing, Peter Wilcox’s Mojo, first (1st) in Monohull Trailable, Peter McKenzie’s Le Rossignol, first (1st) in Monohull Cruising, Sean Allardice Fourlove and first (1st) in Monohull Performance Racing, Trev Hill’s Apriori.
“Sail Paradise is an event that all the competitors, members and staff of Southport Yacht Club (SYC) look forward to annually, it is great to see the buzz around Club and I look forward to joining them on the water tomorrow” said SYC General Manager, Brett James.
Yesterday evening SYC was host to the 2016 Bartercard Sail Paradise skipper and sponsors welcome cocktail party. As major race sponsor, Bartercard Australia CEO Clive van Deventer said that Bartercard is thrilled to be partnering with Southport Yacht Club to sponsor the iconic event. “Since start-up we’ve invested more than $100 million into the sporting and not for profit space,” he said. “We are extremely proud to partner with another locally-grown business to bring these events to the community, and continue growing local commerce and opportunities.”
Bartercard Sail Paradise Regatta will continue offshore from the beautiful Gold Coast beaches for the next four days, with final presentation for both the Bartercard Coffs to Paradise Yacht Race and Bartercard Sail Paradise on Sunday 17th January 2016.
