Persico 69F Cup in Mallorca

Persico 69F Cup GP 4.1 and 4.2 are about to begin in Puerto Portals, Mallorca, Spain. It will be a first time for the only one-design, foiling, team monohull to hit the Palma Bay waters, some of the best known and appreciated in the international regatta industry. The local sea breeze, Embat, is guaranteed daily and allows brilliant racing, while Puerto Portals Marina is renowned for hosting amazing events both on the water and ashore with great entertainment.

On the sport side, the eight-boat fleet of Persico 69F are ready and eager to battle it out on the water not just for the win in these last events of the season, but for the overall victory in the 2022 Persico 69 Cup. Groupe Atlantic is leading the ranking at the moment, followed by Fin1Racing and SDS Swiss Dental Solutions, all three are ready to give it all to win the Circuit in Mallorca. The first two teams have in common that they are made of professional sailors coming from Olympic classes with a sponsorship program, while the latter, SDS Swiss Dental Solutions is a family team, made of a father, Ulrich Volz, and his two daughters – with some professional sailors in the crew – who have enjoyed the whole racing season and, at just their first participation, they are sitting in third with good chances of winning the season.

Among the eight teams on the starting line, there are some with a different goal in mind: training for the Youth Foiling Gold Cup Grand Finals in Barcelona from November 3rd to the 6th. They will indeed add some value to the fleet, increasing the level on the water and the competition for the teams.

“The main aim here at the Cup is getting a good preparation for the Grand Final in Barcelona, we will use GP 4.1 and 4.2 as training for the Final” – says Scipio Houtman from DutchSail. “Mallorca is a great place for sailing, with great sailing conditions and we’re being hosted pretty well by the Marina, I really look forward to the next two weeks of sailing here. We are going to use this time to focus on a couple of areas that we highlighted as our weaknesses, but we are also very keen to get involved with the boats and get some racing action and it looks like we are going to have some good teams to race with in both events”.

Racing will get underway, tomorrow, Friday October 21st and will resume on Sunday the 23rd for the Persico 69F Cup GP 4.1, while on Thursday October 27th racing for the GP 4.2 will start to end on Saturday 29th, crowning the 2022 Persico 69F Cup winners.
