Pineapple Cup – Montego Bay Race postponed to 2023

Montego Bay, Jamaica: It is with great regret that the Montego Bay Yacht Club announces the unavoidable postponement of the 2022 Pineapple Cup – Montego Bay Race, which was scheduled to take place January, but has been moved to January 21-28, 2023.

Montego Bay Yacht Club Rear Commodore Nigel Knowles commented, “With current travel restrictions and uncertainty around the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, it is with a heavy heart that we will need to postpone the upcoming edition of the Pineapple Cup.

“Our partners Appleton Estate and Jamaica Tourist Board have been true partners as we worked through this decision and we are grateful for their continued support.

“We have not made this decision lightly, but ultimately we know that it is in the best interest and safety of the competitors, the Montego Bay Yacht Club and the overall race.”

The health and well-being of the teams, staff, volunteers and partners are the highest priority. There continue to be significant travel and logistical restrictions that are in place right now and are forecast to remain in the coming weeks and potentially months adding to the difficulty in moving forward with the race in 2022.

With this postponement the Pineapple Cup will resume its traditional place on the winter racing calendar in the odd years and we are already looking ahead to January of 2023.
