Gosford Sailing Club (GSC) is pleased to announce it has sponsored the revival of the Ton Yacht Association and as such, will be the organising authority to run the Australian Quarter and Half Tonner Championship on the first weekend of February 2019.
The Championship will be held over three days, starting with an 18 to 20-mile offshore race off Broken Bay on Friday afternoon, followed by inshore racing on Saturday and finishing Sunday. The aim is to provide an enjoyable experience for crews racing both on Brisbane Water and off Broken Bay.
Being revised for the modern era, the regatta will include all Quarter and Half Tonner production built boats and all IOR/JOG rated yachts that might have contested the original series in years gone by (1965 to 1990’s).
To ensure everyone has an equitable chance of success on the race course, regardless of the vintage or size of their boat, the Championship will be run under the (Australian Measurement System (AMS).
There will be the potential for divisions in each class based on age, displacement and rating to ensure the best possible racing.
Paul Gulliksen, Commodore of Gosford Sailing Club, said “We know everyone will have a great time ashore too, at the newly renovated Gosford Sailing Club. It won’t be all about the racing, as a packed social program is being planned to include a sailors’ breakfast forum, as well as guest speakers over dinner.
“Our objective is for everyone to enjoy the experience of racing these boats as a class again. Many of us have been lucky enough to have experienced that already.
“Remember the old saying ‘It’s Twice the Fun With Only Half a Ton’?”
