Racing Rules of Sailing Assistant GPT

The Racing Rules of Sailing Assistant GPT was set up to help sailors stay informed about the rules, offering easy cross-referencing to ensure clarity and understanding in any situation on the water.

  • Designed to minimize the time spent on protests, the assistant allows sailors to quickly resolve rule-related issues, reducing the need for lengthy disputes and enhancing the overall racing experience.
  • The creator envisions the Racing Rules of Sailing Assistant GPT becoming the first point of reference for sailors who need to better understand a rules situation, providing instant access to the information they need.
  • The assistant is also a valuable tool for rules officials and protest committees, offering a reliable resource to direct participants toward when questions or conflicts arise.
  • By making the Racing Rules of Sailing more accessible and understandable, the assistant helps streamline the protest process and supports fair competition on the water.

The Racing Rules of Sailing Assistant GPT bot has been put together and made available by Stuart Holdsworth, an ILCA 7 sailor on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. We actually used the tool yesterday after racing, to “clarify” a minor dispute on the start line and would like to report that after having things explained to us by ChatGPT we were are now much wiser as a result.

Click here to take a look at this exciting new tool. You will need a ChatGPT account to sign in and use it, but this is free to do if you have not already done so.
