Record Fleet at the M32 Europeans

Garda Delivers World-Class Racing in a World-Class Venue.
Thirteen M32s from five countries assembled for the European Championship. After a 15-race series, “Rated X” took the win; however, the rest of the fleet is close on Jake Julian’s heels, with only a few points separating the rest of the podium. It was clear that several teams have the capacity to win races and challenge for the title. Lake Garda behaved as expected. All 15 races were completed as scheduled in the warm southerly Ora of 15-20 knots. The words of Pursuit skipper and class President Bill Ruh, “We are never tired of being here, the racing is fantastic,” were echoed among the teams. Second-place team Dingbat’s skipper Bobby Julien concluded with, “Just an epic, epic, epic three days at this incredible venue… we are looking forward to the Worlds.” The third-place team, Chinaone.Ningbo, not only secured the bronze medal but also walked away with the European Series trophy as the Championship was the final event of the series.

2025 in the Making
Boat owners got together to listen to the plans for 2025. The final decision will be made during the worlds next month. Having the worlds in Europe this year means that the pendulum will sing back to North America next year. Already now the Miami winter series dates were finalised with some adjustment to accommodate for the SailGP schedule as it affects more than half of the fleet.

The most common answer to the question ”Why did you start racing the M32?” has always been, “I tried it, and then I was hooked.” The M32 Demo Boat is the perfect way to get introduced to M32 racing in a way that is tailored to your background in racing other classes. Maybe you have your own racing team and just need a few hints on M32 specifics; or maybe you need help with setting up an M32 experienced crew and start from the beginning with multihull racing. Through the M32 builder, Aston Harald, there will be a demo boat available for new teams on all 2024 regattas.

About the M32
– Designed by experienced Swedish catamaran specialists Göran Marström and Kåre Ljung, the M32 catamaran offers a unique blend of simplicity and ease of handling, combined with lightweight carbon fiber construction and thrilling performance.

– Uniquely, the M32 features an ‘unrig’ [mainsail only, no jib] for simplicity and efficiency. It also features racks, mounted outboard of the hulls to maximize the crew’s weight in the boat’s performance. With the racks deployed, the M32’s beam increases from 5.54m to 8.35m.

– M32s are built-in pre-preg carbon fiber with some high modulus fibers over a Nomex core, It has epoxy that is cured at 120°C under pressure in an autoclave.

– As a result, the M32’s all-up weight is just 510kg, giving the boat lightning-fast acceleration and the ability to fly a hull in just five knots of wind.

– Fore and aft stability is boosted by the large reserve buoyancy forward in each hull combined with the vertical lift provided by the C-shaped daggerboards. These features give the helmsman total control and confidence in all conditions.

– The M32 can be easily towed behind a standard car. It can be assembled quickly thanks to its two-piece mast and bolt-on beams. A further benefit of its light weight is that it can be launched from ramp using a small trolley, with no need for a crane.

– Well established M32 racing circuits in Europe and the US with professional race management, umpiring and safety.

– Intercontinental charter boat program for both owners and interested new sailors.

– Popular among pro-sailors making it easy to find pro crew members for new teams.

– World Sailing affiliated international class association, governed by boat owners worldwide

– Closed class rule with all spare parts specified and modifications strongly regulated

– Boat builder that supports the class and boat owners
