Red Energy sailed by Murray Press & Mark Muirhead put in a strong performance to win the 12 Foot Skiff ‘Parramatta River Championship’ (Len Postill Memorial Trophy), hosted by Abbotsford 12 Foot Skiff Sailing Club on Saturday the 11th November. A building NE breeze greeted the fleet with 3rd rigs being the choice of the day. Red Energy jumped clear from the start leading Slippery Wen Wet & Sydney Sailmakers up the first work. After spinnakers were set Red Energy established a clear lead and were never headed to take the win with minutes to spare. They also took out the handicap trophy (Keith Tutt Memorial trophy) run in conjunction with the scratch championship.
The fight for placings was a closer affair with Sydney Sailmakers (Cameron MacDonald & Brendan Jenkins) & LCC Asia Pacific (Jono Temple & Richard Jones) both overcoming rigging malfunctions to move through the fleet & getting past Slippery When Wet & Skoll, both sailing well early to take out 2nd & 3rd respectively. The flat waters around Abbotsford Sailing club & the building NE’er made for some great & fast sailing.
