Reliving the magic of the PIC Harbour Classic

For those who attended – thank you! We hope you had a fantastic weekend at the PIC Harbour Classic. We know it’s a busy sailing calendar, so it means a lot that you chose to join us for this special event.

For those who missed it – mark your calendars for next year! The PIC Harbour Classic isn’t a race; it’s a sailing festival designed to bring together local, out-of-town, and international visitors for a weekend of fun-filled experiences.

Beyond the Welcome Party and Prizegiving, we think the real highlight had to be the flotilla of boats moored and rafted up at Jellicoe/North Wharf, creating an awesome atmosphere. Add to that the sounds of Six60 in the background and the energy of Wynyard Quarter, it all made for a fantastic evening.

Special mentions

CLUBS

A special shout-out to the clubs that made the extra effort to finish their races at Jellicoe/North Wharf, helping to create an unforgettable atmosphere. Cheers to Milford Cruising Club, Gulf Harbour Yacht Club, and the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron!

BATTLE OF THE CLUBS

Congratulations to the Royal Akarana Yacht Club, who won the Battle of the Clubs and took home the Fastest Yacht ClubTrophy, represented by FFortune, FFlying Cloud, The Godfather, and Titus Canby.

OUT OF TOWNERS

We’d also like to acknowledge those who travelled from afar– Denim from Opua Cruising Club in the Bay of Islands and Water Music from Reunion Island, French Territory. Your participation truly embodies the spirit of this event!

RACING

A massive congratulations to all our winners! While Frank Racing took the handicap honours, it was the three Flying Fifteen boats – the smallest in the fleet but impeccably sailed – that claimed second, third, and fourth places!

And let’s not forget the sports boats, with Weapon of Choice being the first monohull across the line – an incredible performance.

It was also great to see four of the top five PHRF finishers were women! Jenny Price (Ffortune) narrowly held off Sarah Reynolds (FflyingCloud) in the Flying Fifteen fleet, finishing just 4 seconds ahead. Anne Hirst (Team Sex) got the better of her husband, Chris Hirst (Enigma), in a closely contested Magic 25 race, while Sally Garrett (The GodFfather) put in a solid performance to claim fourth place.
