The Tasar class, a hugely popular and highly competitive class, will be taking to the waters of Port Phillip from 28 to 31 December 2023 for the Australian National Championship and will follow this up with the main event – the World Championship from 2 to 9 January 2024.
Port Phillip offers an incredible expense of water for large fleet dinghy sailing and Sandringham Yacht Club has extensive experience in managing world titles and international sailing competitions.
“We are expecting a strong participation for this event,” says Blaise Vinot, the Tasar Association of Victoria President. “We can already see a lot of interest from Australian sailors who are eager to compete in a World title. We are looking forward to over 100 boats taking part with a great atmosphere of camaraderie that is typical of the class.”
Commodore Garry Anderson of Sandringham Yacht Club added, “SYC is an ideal partner for an international competition, with world class facilities, perfect viewing of the racing area and a wealth of experience in race management. Some sailors will remember the 1998 Tasar World titles held at the Club and we have no doubt that this event will be even more memorable.”
The Tasar is a 4.5-metre-high performance sailing dinghy. With a light weight, low-drag planing hull, a rotating mast, jib and fully battened mainsail, it provides exhilarating sailing without the need for spinnaker or trapeze.
