Seawind sails to success in export awards

At a gala dinner at Sydney’s Star City Casino with 630 exporters and supporters including guests of honour Nathan Rees MP, NSW Premier, and the Hon Tony Stewart MP, Minister for Small Business, Seawind Catamarans were awarded the title of Best Exporter of NSW in the small-to-medium manufacturer category.

This recognition comes as Seawind increased its exports by 77 percent from 2006-07 to 2007-08, despite the Australian dollar being at an all time high at the time. Through hard work, good people and some innovative marketing strategies and excellent products, Seawind continue to enjoy growing export demand in the US and Asia Pacific regions.

“We were absolutely thrilled to win this exporter award, considering we had such strong competition from other exporters in the same category,” Seawind’s MD Richard Ward said.

“We a new factory almost complete and our plans for the next 18 months, we expect our exports to continue to build.”

The executive director of the Australian Institute of Export, Ian Murray AM, said there were a large number of awards programs across NSW, but only one that recognised excellence on the international stage.

“Like many of our sporting heroes, exporters that receive the recognition of an export award take on the world and win. It’s great to recognise excellence, but even greater to recognise those who compete against the best the world has to offer,” he said..

“Congratulations to Seawind Catamarans for winning the 2008 Premier’s NSW Small to Medium Manufacturing Export Award.”

Seawind now exports approximately 30 percent of production, with dealers located throughout the US, plus New Zealand, Thailand and Hong Kong.

The company now progresses to the National Exporter Awards, which are to be held in December this year.
