Selden for Sailing Winter Regatta 2022 wraps up at RPAYC

The final round of the “Selden for Sailing Winter Regatta 2022” was held on Sunday at the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club on Pittwater. Although the sun came out to try and keep us a bit warmer, the wind didn’t to deliver and eventually fizzled out during the second race, resulting in a very slow paddle home. We all know about the risks of racing in Sydney during these Winter months, but speaking for myself, I am over those cold mornings and can’t wait for a lovely warm summer sea-breeze.

The Radial, Standard and 29er fleets were the largest of the series but a mix of windsurfers, Waszps, Skuds, Flying Ants, Optis and F16s swelled the overall numbers. It was great to see so many of the youngsters still out there in these chilly conditions. The closest finish was in the Standards which was won on count back by Alexander “Zander” Bijkerk (good luck at the U21 Worlds this week) from Chris “Seedy” Dawson.

Series sponsor Jan Scholten from Selden and Contender Sailcloth (who finished 3rd behind Seedy) presented the series winners with their awards, including vouchers from Selden Deck Hardware. Thanks to Barz Optics who supplied 10 pairs of their Sunnies for Lucky Draw prizes.

As with every regatta or race we compete in, whether it be at your club or a Worlds, we wouldn’t be able to do so without the volunteers and race officers. So, a big thanks to you all, especially our RO for the series Scott Paulson.
