Semaine Olympique Française de Hyères returns in 2022

For the first time in France, all 10 Olympic classes to be contested at the Paris Games will be on show at the Semaine Olympique Française de Hyères, which returns to the calendar in April 2022 following a hiatus due to Covid.

For over 50 years, the elite of Olympic sailing have converged on Hyères in the Toulon Provence Méditerranée area in the spring, for one of the most hotly anticipated events of the season. Famous for its stretch of water and high-quality regatta organisation, the regatta is one of the major events on the international Olympic sailing circuit.

From 2022, following two years as a virtual event, Hyères will once again have the pleasure of welcoming the best sailors in the world in preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

All 10 Olympic classes to be contested at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, will be present in Hyères from April 23 to 30, 2022.

The 10 Olympic classes: iQFOiL (Men’s and Women’s), Kite (Men’s and Women’s), ILCA (ex-Laser), Laser Radial, 49er, 49erFX, Nacra 17 (Mixed), 470 (Mixed) will compete on the Mediterranean waters of Hyères, which are as technical as they are tactical, and renowned for mainly strong winds. Some of these classes are making their Olympic debut.

“After two complicated years because of COVID-19, the Semaine Olympique Française is back on the calendar in 2022 – and for the next three years,” Jean-Luc Denéchau, President of the Fédération Française de Voile (French Sailing Federation), said.

“This is great news for this historic event. It will be an opportunity to see, for the first time in France, all the new Olympic classes.

“The preparation time for the 2024 Olympic Games is going to be short and all the big events, such as the Semaine Olympique Française, will be crucial moments not to be missed. It promises to be compelling viewing and a great week of competition.”
