Slingsby 2nd at European Lasers

The Australian Sailing Team's Tom Slingsby has finished second at the 2009 Laser European Championship in Borstahusens, Sweden.

Slingsby went into the final day of competition in fifth overall and needing a strong performance to move into a podium position sailed well to come home third in the final race.

In his final tune up before the upcoming Laser World Championship in Halifax, Canada, Slingsby sailed consistently well in the light conditions which were present throughout the regatta, claiming two race victories on his way to his second placing.

The two-time World Champion finished behind 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Gold medalist Paul Goodison and ahead of Spain's Javier Hernandez.

Australian Sailing Development Squad member Tom Burton finished the regatta 61st in the gold fleet while fellow ASDS sailors Ryan Hannan was eighth in the silver fleet and James Burman finished 27th.
