Batemans Bay Sailing Club conducted its long running multiclass regatta on the weekend of April 27th and 28th. Dinghy, catamaran, sports boat and trailerable yacht sailors came from Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne and all over south east NSW to compete on the open waters of Batemans Bay. There were 45 boats entered with strong fleets in the Lightweight Sharpie, 505 and VXOne classes.
Sunny skies and a 12 knot seabreeze led to champagne sailing conditions for races one and two on Saturday. On Sunday the breeze failed to arrive on schedule. Racing was AP’d for over an hour. Conditions remained light forcing Race Officer Phil Yeomans to shorten both races three and four.
Results were close despite the tricky conditions. In the Lightweight Sharpies “Truck” (Riley Curry) scored an upset victory over “Smoke” (Michael Forster). Daniel Keys and Daryl Roos won all four races aboard “Buffer” in the 505s. Rob Douglass teamed up with Sarah Crawford to achieve a narrow win amongst the VXOne fleet. The NSW RL24 championship held as part of the regatta went to Colin Boylan and the “Ringleader” team from Illawarra Yacht Club.
