Collingwood Mayor Sandra Cooper is commending the actions of the Captain and crew of the Tall Ship, Liana's Ransom — for rescuing two people from the waters of Georgian Bay.

The incident happened last Saturday around 4:30 PM, just after the Ship left Collingwood for a cruise.

Liana's Ransom Captain Joe Tilley had about 35 passengers aboard,  when he saw a woman frantically waving at him from a nearby sailboat.

The woman had wanted to swim and jumped into the water, not realizing that despite the warm air temperatures of about 29 Celsius, the water temperature was much cooler at approximately 16 Celcius.

She went into shock and began experiencing symptoms of hypothermia.
