The Cape Horn Race – a true test of grit

The Cape Horn Race gives both professional and Corinthian sailors an equal chance of winning under IRC handicap, attracting entries from towns and yacht clubs… the race invites teams to participate in the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of discovery of the Magellan Strait in 1520, and the first race round Cape Horn Island, in 2020. More than just a race, Cape Horn Race 19/20 provides four legendary sailing challenges; up to four months of mythic discovery; and social activity in four countries: Argentina, Chile, Gibraltar, and Uruguay.

The race starts in Gibraltar on 2 November 2019 with 4 stop-over ports as follows:

1. Buenos Aires, Argentina.
2. Ushuaia, Argentina and Puerto Williams, Chile.
3. Punta Arenas, Chile in the Magellan Strait.
4. Punta del Este, Uruguay : Race finish : 18 Febuary 2020.

The competition is open to cruising and racing mono-hull yachts IRC of length overall (LOA) of between 12 meters (39.37 ft) and 24 meters (78.74 ft), which offers a diversity of yacht categories consisting of professional skippers, owner-skippers, charter/training skippers, including a Ladies and Youth Trophy : sailing as one fleet in a daring challenge racing round the Horn and through the Magellan Strait…
