The Ultimate 270 is based on a Northshore 27. Boatbuilder Jerry Hendry bought the 27 stripped the hull then rebuilt it . “I wanted to show that Australians could match the best European boatbuilders and I wanted to do something under 30ft because there is nothing much on the market” Gerry said.
The Northshore's keel was removed and sandblasted and the hull exterior resprayed in Aqua Mist (Off White) with double boot top line in Teal. The cockpit floor was finished with Tek Dek, a composite material which looks like teak but reduces maintenance. The spacious cockpit is ideal for entertaining as it can easily accommodate up to 6 people.
The 15hp Nanni auxiliary was removed and given a full service. The three bladed fixed propeller was changed to a two bladed folding propeller to improve performance.
The engine room was totally insulated with a high quality sound dampening material and the 20 litre insulated hot water tank was installed to supply the galley and the cockpit shower with hot water. A compact 24 litre sullage tank was also installed with a cockpit to shore discharge.
The interior was rebuilt with shiplap silver ash on the topsides, with solid teak trims and combings giving a light and airy feeling. The new galley was fitted to include three large sliding drawers, underbench storage behind the SS sink and a new 2 burner gas stove with grill. There is also open storage above the galley bench top.
All the hatches were replaced and to improve ventilation, two Lewmar opening ports were fitted to each side of the cabin.
This boat has been equipped with wind depth and log instrumentation by Tacktick together with a plotter and a VHF radio and sound system. 12 volt refrigeration has been installed underneath the navigation table directly opposite the galley.
