Three sailors rescued off Garden Island after trimaran capsizes in rough seas

Three men survived a capsizing in rough seas yesterday thanks to a dramatic rescue off the coast of Garden Island.

About 5.30pm yesterday the men activated their EPIRB signals after 3-5m waves swamped their trimaran. Fremantle Sea Rescue, Water Police and the RAC rescue helicopter were luckily on hand and all responded to the emergency call.

Fremantle Sea Rescue skipper Malcolm Evans said it took nearly 40 minutes to reach the capsized boat, due to the choppy conditions. “We saw three men sitting on the hull of the boat, all wearing life jackets and with the correct safety equipment,” he said.
