According to the World Yacht Racing Forum, more than 6,000 people have signed a petition saying the Tornados should be included in the 2012 Olympics.
“During their last conference in May, the ISAF (International Sailing Federation) discussed the matter. According to some comments, if IOC grants an 11th sailing medal for the Olympic Games, it will be for an Open Multihull Event, raced in Tornados. The final decision will be made in October,” the media release states.
While any extra medal would almost certainly be a multihull event, mysailing.com.au believes there is very little chance of an extra medal being approved. Sailing already has the highest ratio of officials to competitors in the Games and with Women's Match Racing recently added we'd be surprised (though delighted) if Tornados were re-admitted.
