Aussie Race Wins on the Final Day of Qualifying at Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mallorca by Fergus Hotels Regatta
After a short wait on shore, the fleets were treated to classic sea breeze conditions, rewarding those who executed strong starts and stayed in sync with the shifting wind. With Gold Fleet qualification on the line in the ILCAs, 470s, 49ers, and 49erFX, it was a pressure-filled day. Some sailors secured their place in the top tier for the remainder of the regatta, while others will take valuable lessons into Silver and Bronze fleet racing over the next three days.
Race wins came for Brin Liddell & Rhiannan Brown in the Nacra 17, Otto Henry & Shaun Connor in the 49er, marking their second win of the event, Ethan McAullay in the ILCA 7, winning his first race of the day, and Grae Morris, who claimed two wins from five races in the iQFOiL.
Grae Morris remains in 2nd overall in the iQFOiL, continuing his impressive run in the high-speed foiling fleet.
Ethan McAullay holds 2nd overall in the ILCA 7, proving to be one of the most consistent performers in the fleet. Zac Littlewood and Michael Compton also secured their places in Gold Fleet.
In the ILCA 6, Zoe Thomson is in the hunt at 5th overall, while Mara Stransky climbed to 9th heading into finals racing. They’ll be joined in Gold Fleet by Casey Imeneo, Elyse Ainsworth, and Sylvie Stannage.
In the 49er, Otto Henry & Shaun Connor moved up to 5th overall, with another race win showcasing their potential as a new pairing.
Over in the Nacra 17, Brin Liddell & Rhiannan Brown now sit 5th overall, while Ruben & Rita Booth hold 9th, keeping themselves in the fight. Archie Gargett & Sarah Hoffman also made gains, moving up to 11th overall.
In the 49erFX, Laura Harding & Annie Wilmot qualified for Gold Fleet in 17th
Racing continues tomorrow at 11 AM, with the best sailors battling for a place in the top 10 medal race over the next three days
