Vendée Globe – The incredible battle of the Atlantic

Boris Herrmann (Malizia Seaexplorer, 12th) and Sam Davies (Initiatives-Cœur, 13th) crossed the finish line and shared a magnificent, well earned return into the Les Sables d’Olonne channel this Thursday afternoon. Behind them, there are still 20 skippers racing, all gradually getting closer to the finish line, but for them, the race is far from over. Arnaud Boissières lost his mast this Thursday morning on La Mie Caline when he was 27th position. He reported that he has managed to secure his boat and that he was fine. Yannick Bestaven (Maître Coq V, out of the race) and Romain Attanasio (Fortinet-Best Western, 14th) should be the next to reach Les Sables d’Olonne, probably this Sunday. The duo is currently making headway downwind, to the north of an anticyclone.

Approaching the Azores, a group of eight skippers are within a 120-mile radius. They are in the midst of an exceptional battle comprising four foilers and four boats with straight daggerboards. A powerful front could allow them to reach the finish downwind on starboard tack. It is difficult to say who will win this incredible “match within the match” which should end between Monday and Tuesday next. For his part, Guirec Soudée (23rd) is expected on Friday, a little before five skippers including Violette Dorange (DeVenir, 26th) who could complete this incredible adventure next weekend. Finally, it should be noted that Éric Bellion (Stand As One – Altavia, out of the race) has crossed the equator and will soon be imitated by Antoine Cornic (Human Immobilier, 29th).
