Volvo leaders limp towards Abu Dhabi as wind fails

Initially expected to arrive at the finish line of leg 2 in bu Dhabi yesterday, the three leading boats in the Volvo Ocean Race have sailed into a zone of extremely light winds and have been limping along at less than five knots for the past 24 hours.

At time of writing, Dongfend and Team Brunel were still 160nm from the finish, with Abu Dhabi six miles astern – which translates into an hour and a half at current speed.

Alvimedica is leading the three back-markers, who are making up some ground but they are also in light winds. Alvimedica is expected to ask for redress for standing by the stricken Team Vestas Wind of Mauritius.
