What a load of s**t! NSW Maritime says 14.2 million litres of sewage pumped from boats

Better out than in!

During 2018 more than 14.2 million litres of sewage waste was recovered from 14,890 commercial vessels visiting the public pump-out facilities on Sydney Harbour.

NSW Maritime Environmental Services team maintains the three publicly funded marine sewage pump-out facilities on Sydney Harbour, located at Blackwattle Bay, White Bay 6 and King Street Wharf.

All boaters (including commercial operators) are reminder that under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 (POEO Act), it’s an offence to pollute any waters, unless permitted under a licence issued by the Environment Protection Authority. Maritime officers can issue on-the-spot infringement notices of $7,500 to an individual or $15,000 to a corporation where cases of pollution from vessels are detected.
