No less than 126 professional photographers, representing 23 nations, submitted their best photo for the 2021 edition of the competition. Given the global health situation and the decrease in the number of races recently, this is an excellent number.
“We received 131 photos last year for the “Photo of the Century” award, 133 images in 2019 and 109 in 2018. The success of the 2021 edition illustrates the fact that business is back for marine photographers and it is great news for the entire marine industry,” says Bernard Schopfer, the event’s organiser. “We are also discovering many new marine photographers, which is great news.”
The 2021 edition of the contest promises to be intense, with some great pictures taken during some of the sport’s most important events, including the America’s Cup, the Olympic Games and the Vendée Globe.
The five members of the international jury, Jo Aleh (NZL), Gilles Martin-Raget (FRA), Glenn Ashby (AUS), Nicolas Mirabaud (SUI) and Anne-Cécile Turner (FRA) selected the 80 best images which are now online.
Two prizes will be awarded at the Nautic in Paris in December: the Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image Award (main prize), selected by the international jury, and the Public Award, based on the number of public votes cast on the Internet.
Public voting is open until November 3.
