Yacht sinks at Belmore Basin mooring

The wild weather didn’t help things but it had nothing to do with the sinking of a boat in Belmore Basin on Tuesday afternoon. Fire and Rescue NSW Wollongong Station Commander Andy Barber said the 40-foot steel yacht “just sank”.

“I believe it might have had a leak or two,” Commander Barber said. “I believe the Water Police pumped out the boat [on Monday].”We got notified at 4pm today there was a problem. When we got there there was about two inches of freeboard left. There was nothing left.”
