Yacht wreckage salvaged from Marlborough Sounds

by

A salvage operation is underway this week for a yacht that broke up after it washed ashore in rough conditions sailing from Picton to Nelson, New Zealand.

Two people were bringing the vessel through the Marlborough Sounds when they got into trouble at Okuri Bay, near French Pass on Boxing Day.

It is understood the pair encountered issues while attempting to anchor in rough conditions when the dinghy line fouled the propeller.

With the yacht beached for more than three weeks, the Marlborough District Council instructed the salvage operation to go ahead on Tuesday.
