Young Aussies get ready for Mirror Worlds

As Clubs and Class Associations recognize their season champions and most of us are enjoying the winter to resurrect soggy sailing gear from the damp depths of our dutiful sailing bags, WA Mirror sailors are gearing up for the UK National Championships and World Championships in late July 2009 at Clwb Hwylio, Pwllheli in Wales.

Sailing will be on Tremadon Bay on the north end of Cardigan Bay in Northern Wales. Clwb Hwylio has considerable experience hosting prestigious championship regattas and the sailing waters around Pwllheli are cold but amongst the best in the United Kingdom. In Cardigan Bay tidal streams are weak, winds are stable and the scenery is superb with Mt. Snowdon and the Welsh mountains providing a magnificent backdrop.

Six Australian crews have registered: Liam Wilson & Jessica Stout, Tom & Brittany Henderson and Rex and Andy Henderson all of Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club, Paul & Austin Taylor and Lawson Taylor & Mitchell Sainty from Princess Royal Sailing Club and Anita Scott-Murphy & Ben Cruse of Williamstown Sailing Club.

For those at home, the annual Yachting WA Mirrorsail Development Camp will be held at Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club on 19th & 20th September 2009 with highly accredited coaches on hand to ensure sailors at every level get a huge amount of benefit from the two days.

All Mirror sailors (adults and children)are welcome to enroll for the camp. Those without access to a boat can still enter and should contact loan boats coordinator, Geoff Wilson on 0439 842 946.

Coinciding with the Sunday of Yachting WA Mirrorsail the Mirror Association will hold a “Sail Sale Day” where you are invited to bring along anything Mirror related to sell.

The 2009 Mirror National Championships will be held on Lake Cootharba, Noosa Queensland from 28th December 2009 to 3rd January 2010.
